Preparando por El Accion de Gracias!

To start off this week, my host dad had a birthday!  I helped the girls make a card for him and Agueda picked out a triple chocolate cake for us to eat.  For his present, I decided that there was really nothing here I could get him, so I ordered some Carolina gear and had my mom ship it to Spain!  Slippers are a big thing here so I bought him some slippers and a long sleeve T-shirt to represent the Tarheels and he loved it!  He wears his slippers everyday :)

In my school, we have been doing some fun Thanksgiving activities.  I made a powerpoint to explain to them the meaning of Thanksgiving and why it is important in America.  Then I explain to the children that my parents will be celebrating Thanksgiving, and since I can't be there to celebrate with them, I told them I wanted to celebrate it here in my class.  I put together a turkey hat template for the kids to draw and color, and then put together to make a hat.  They loved the idea :) The kids get so excited and are so creative!  I also brought this project home for my girls to do and Agueda modeled her hat for me!

Also, I finally went to get my haircut and people who know me know that the two things I am particular about  /obsessed with are eyebrows and hair products.  I was so nervous about getting my haircut in Spain since my Spanish is mediocre.  However, I got the best haircut and the best blow-dry in my life!  They were so careful!  Looks like my hairstylist is in Spain...and I can never return to the US.  

Other than that, my days have been full of studying Spanish grammar in my new Spanish grammar book and playing games with the kids.  The most recent -- "The Hokey Pokey".  I've been working with the girls on Left/Right, Above/Below, Up/Down, and Body Parts in English.  So far, it's been working like a charm! And I got to try on Belen's traditional Galician dress!

Al principio de esta semana mi padre aquí estuvo de cumple!  Yo ayudé a las niñas a hacer una carta para él y Agueda eligió una tarta con tres tipos de chocolate para comer nosotros.  Para su regalo decidí que no hay una cosa aquí que yo le compraría, entonces compré algunas cositas de mi universidad y mi madre mandó las cosas aquí.  Las zapatillas son una cosa muy importante aquí entonces le compré un par de zapatillas y una camiseta de manga larga que representa a los Tarheels y le encantó.  El lleva sus zapatillas todos los días J

En mi colegio, hemos hecho actividades divertidas para preparar Acción de Gracias.  Hice un “Power Point” para explicarles el significado de Acción de Gracias y porqué es importante en America.  Luego, yo expliqué a los niños que mis padres celebraran Acción de Gracias y que como no puedo celebrarlo con ellos, quiero celebrarlo aquí en mi clase.  Hice una plantilla sombrero de pavo para que los niños la pintasen. Después cortaron las piezas y las pegaron para a hacer el sombrero. Les encantó la idea.  Los niños estuvieron muy emocionados  y eran muy creativos.   También, llevé el proyecto a mi casa para las niñas y Águeda nos mostró su sombrero. 

Finalmente yo fui a cortar mi pelo y la gente que me conoce sabe que soy particular sobre las cejas y productos de pelo.  Yo tenía miedo por mi corte de pelo en España porque mi español es regular.  Pero, yo obtuve el mejor corte de pelo de mi vida! Ella fue muy cuidadosa.  Me parece que mi peluquería esta en España y ahora no puedo regresar a EE.UU nunca.

Aparte de eso, mis días han pasado estudiando gramática española en mi libro nuevo y jugando con las niñas.  El más reciente – “The Hokey Pokey”.  He estado trabajando con las niñas para que aprendan Izquierda/Derecha, Arriba/Abajo y las partes del cuerpo.  Hasta ahora, ha funcionado muy bien -- y llevé el tradicional vestido de Galicia de Belén
